Story
A trio of men dressed in dark coats and hats pause on an iron bridge span, gazing out over a hazy urban scene rendered in soft blue and gray tones. The structure beneath them is the pont de l'Europe, a bridge connected to the rail lines near the Gare Saint-Lazare, and the scene captures a quiet moment of city life. This piece was painted in 1876 in oil and now belongs to the Kimbell Art Museum. Gustave Caillebotte (1848–1894), a French painter associated with Impressionism, also created the notable work Paris Street; Rainy Day. One detail worth noting is how the men's posture and shadowed clothing contrast sharply against the pale, atmospheric haze of the industrial backdrop, giving the composition a sense of stillness amid the bustle implied by the rail and bridge setting.
