Story
A curving garden path bends through beds of red blooms and dense green leaves, with a grassy rise climbing in the distance behind the plantings. The composition draws the eye along the trail as it disappears into the slope, suggesting a tended outdoor space captured in a single quiet view. Gustave Caillebotte painted this scene in 1886 in oil, and it is now held at the Dallas Museum of Art. Caillebotte, who lived from 1848 to 1894 and worked in France, is associated with Impressionism and also created Paris Street; Rainy Day. One detail worth lingering on is the contrast between the vivid red flowers lining the path and the cooler green tones of the foliage and the sloping grass beyond, which gives the scene its sense of depth and color balance.
