Story

Five figures dressed formally occupy a theater box, their postures close together as they watch something beyond the frame. The composition favors muted yellows, blacks, and browns, lending the scene a hushed, intimate air. This is a lithograph printed in colour, made in 1896, by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (1864–1901), a French artist associated with Post-impressionism, whose notable work includes At the Moulin Rouge.
