Story
Trees ring an open clearing where purple-hued plants mingle with green ground cover under a soft, pale sky. The scene is rendered in watercolor layered over black chalk on paper, completed in 1906. The artist, Henri Edmond Cross (1856–1910), was French and worked within Neo-impressionism and pointillism, movements built on broken color and light. The piece is held at the Israel Museum.
