Story

A quiet stretch of water glows beneath a sky of purple and yellow stars, while a dark line of trees stands silhouetted against the horizon. This scene was rendered in watercolor on paper in 1905. Henri Edmond Cross (1856–1910), a French artist, worked within Neo-impressionism and pointillism, using small, deliberate touches of color to build this nocturnal landscape with quiet intensity and careful observation.
