Story

Terracotta pots hold a quiet gathering of blooms: white hydrangeas rising above red wallflowers, with yellow and purple pansies clustered nearby, all set against a plain brown background. The composition favors texture and color over setting, drawing attention to each petal and leaf. Painted by Henri Fantin-Latour (1836–1904), a French artist associated with Realism, Impressionism, and Symbolism, the work reflects his skill as a botanical illustrator and his close observation of flowers.
