Story

A hazy woodland emerges through fog, its trees rendered in soft strokes of blue, green, yellow, and brown, blurring the line between solid form and atmosphere. This oil on panel work, titled Dans le Brouillard, dates from the late 19th or early 20th century, by Henri Matisse (1869–1954), a French artist associated with Fauvism and Impressionism. It entered the Minneapolis Institute of Art as a gift from Kenneth and Margery Carpenter.
