Story
A dark vase holds red dahlias beside a plate of fruit, a drinking glass, an open book, and a chair, all set before patterned wallpaper marked with purple blossoms. The arrangement was painted in oil in 1923 by Henri Matisse, a French artist linked to Fauvism, Impressionism, and Neo-impressionism, also known for Blue Nude. The piece entered the Baltimore Museum of Art through a collection formed by two sisters from Baltimore.
