Story

A quiet interior opens onto a window, with a small table bearing a potted plant set near the glass, painted in greens, blues, browns, and whites. The scene is rendered in oil, completed in 1916. The work comes from a French painter, Henri Matisse (1869–1954), associated with Fauvism. It entered the Detroit Institute of Arts through a City of Detroit purchase.
