Story
A bouquet fills a clear glass vase set on an orange table, with pink peonies, white daisies, red tulips, and small blue blossoms standing out against a flat green backdrop. The arrangement forms an oil painting completed in 1909 by Henri Rousseau, now held at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum. The piece entered the collection through the Room of Contemporary Art Fund in New York. Rousseau, born in 1844 and died in 1910, was a French painter associated with naïve art, and he is also known for his work The Dream. One detail worth noticing is how the bright, varied blossoms seem to float forward against the plain green background, giving the composition a flattened, decorative quality rather than deep spatial realism.
