Story
A tiger and a buffalo face off within thick green growth, surrounded by yellow hop flowers and orange fruit under a turquoise sky. The confrontation fills the canvas with tension, framed by dense tropical foliage. This oil on canvas work was completed in 1908. It belongs to the Hermitage Museum. Henri Rousseau (1844–1910), a French painter, worked in naïve art and primitivism, styles that shaped this vivid jungle scene.
