Story

Overlapping circles and organic shapes fill the composition, rendered in purple, yellow, black, and white against a lavender ground. Spherical forms seem to touch and layer across the surface, creating a sense of depth within the flat picture plane. The piece was made in 1907 using tempera on paper, later mounted on canvas. Hilma af Klint (1862–1944), a Swedish painter, worked within abstract art.
