Group IX/SUW, No. 10, The Swan

Story

A radiating circle of color sits at the center of the composition, flanked by dark, swirling shapes above and below a pale horizontal band crossing the middle. The forms seem to mirror each other across that stripe, giving the whole piece a sense of balance built from contrasting motion and stillness. It is an oil painting completed in 1915 by Hilma af Klint (1862–1944), a Swedish artist associated with abstract art.
