Story

Concentric circles and crosses radiate across an orange ground, rendered in gold, red, and black. The forms repeat and overlap, built from rounded shapes set against straight crossing lines. This is an oil on canvas made in 1908 by Hilma af Klint (1862–1944), a Swedish painter. Her practice became associated with abstract art, and this piece belongs to the Hilma af Klint Foundation in Stockholm.
