Story

A page of botanical study presents several flowering plants and catkins rendered with careful detail, with purples, yellows, and greens filling the watercolor illustrations. The composition groups the specimens together, allowing their forms and colors to be compared side by side. This is a watercolor piece by Hilma af Klint, a Swedish artist (1862–1944) whose work is associated with abstract art.

Where it works

Pastel artwork suited to libraries and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
