Story

A yellow point sits at the heart of rippling rings, their bands shifting between deep blue and red as they radiate outward in a tightly ordered pattern. The composition reads as a study of a birch rendered through pure geometric rhythm rather than literal branches or leaves. Made with watercolor on paper in 1922, it comes from Hilma af Klint (1862–1944), a Swedish painter associated with abstract art.
