Glass Vase with Flowers on Stone Ledge, 1655-60

Story

A clear glass vase holds a bright cluster of tulips, roses, and peonies, set upon a dark stone ledge with a black backdrop surrounding it. The painting was made in oil on panel between 1655 and 1660. Jan Davidsz de Heem, a Dutch painter born in 1606 and died in 1684, created this still life. The piece comes from the Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Collection, now held at the Peabody Essex Museum.
