Still Life with Flowers in a Glass Vase

Story

A clear glass vase holds a cluster of red, pink, white, and yellow blooms, set against a deep, shadowed background with small insects resting nearby. The composition is rendered in oil on copper, completed in 1650. The artist, Jan Davidsz de Heem (1606–1684), worked as a Dutch painter and botanical illustrator. The piece came to the Rijksmuseum on loan from the City of Amsterdam.
