Still Life with Oysters and Grapes

Story

A table setting glows softly in near darkness: open oysters rest beside pale lemons and clusters of grapes, with a delicate wine glass set upon a cloth of deep blue. Jan Davidsz de Heem rendered this arrangement in oil on panel. The piece entered the Los Angeles County Museum of Art as a gift from The Ahmanson Foundation. De Heem, Dutch, lived from 1606 to 1684 and worked as a painter.
