Story
A quiet garden nook unfolds under a bright sky, with tall trees rising above green hedges and white buildings catching the sunlight in a Mediterranean setting. This oil painting was completed in 1910 and is held at the J. Paul Getty Museum, with the digital image made available through the museum's Open Content Program. It was painted by Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida, a Spanish artist who lived from 1863 to 1923. Looking closely, the contrast between the deep shade of the foliage and the sunlit walls draws attention to the play of light across the enclosed space, giving the corner a layered sense of depth and warmth.
