Horseneck Falls, Greenwich, Connecticut

Story

A rocky stream winds through a shadowy forest ravine, mist settling among green foliage and pale white birch trunks. Water tumbles over stones, giving the scene a damp, secluded quiet. The piece is rendered in oil. John Henry Twachtman (1853–1902) was an American painter associated with Impressionism, and this depiction of Horseneck Falls in Greenwich, Connecticut reflects the atmospheric, nature-focused sensibility of that approach, akin to his related work Horseneck Brook.

Where it works
