The White Bridge

Story

A pale arched bridge crosses a quiet river, framed by trees and open fields rendered in soft greens, yellows, and blues. The scene is painted in oil, completed in 1895. John Henry Twachtman, an American painter and graphic artist who lived from 1853 to 1902, worked within Impressionism, giving the composition its gentle, atmospheric light. The painting entered the Minneapolis Institute of Art as a gift from the Martin B. Koon Memorial Collection.
