Story
A quiet stream cuts through drifts of snow, bordered by bare trees and gentle hills, painted in soft whites, blues, and muted earth tones. The scene feels still, as if the cold air itself has settled over the land. John Henry Twachtman completed this oil painting in 1890, working within American Impressionism. The piece belongs to the Terra Foundation for American Art, having come from the Daniel J. Terra Collection. Twachtman, born in 1853 and died in 1902, was an American painter also known for Horseneck Brook.
