Story

A shepherd dressed in dark clothing watches over sheep grazing across a grassy field, with a cluster of stone buildings nearby and a dusky sky settling over the village beyond. Painted in oil on canvas in 1889, the scene captures a quiet rural evening. The work came to its collection through the Daniel J. Terra Collection. John Leslie Breck, an American painter who lived from 1860 to 1899, created this view of countryside life at twilight.
