Morning Fog and Sun

Story

Haystacks stand scattered across a hazy field, framed by trees and faint church spires along a riverbank, all softened by pale early light. The scene is rendered in oil, completed in 1892. John Leslie Breck, an American painter born in 1860 and who died in 1899, captured this quiet rural view with attention to shifting atmosphere. The piece came into the Terra Foundation for American Art through the Daniel J. Terra Collection.

Where it works
