Story

A young, blonde-haired girl in a blue dress pauses in a wooded setting, gazing upward at a wide-grinning, striped cat settled on a tree branch above her. The scene renders this encounter from Lewis Carroll's story as a colour litho. John Tenniel (1820–1914), a British caricaturist and graphic artist, created this illustration from Alice in Wonderland, bringing the whimsical meeting between Alice and the Cheshire Cat to vivid, printed life.
