Story

A young girl sits on the ground between two strange creatures: a winged lion-eagle beast and a hulking turtle-like figure, set against yellow rocky terrain under a cloudy sky. The scene comes from an illustration for Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, rendered as a colour litho. The artist, John Tenniel (1820–1914), was a British caricaturist and graphic artist, also known for Dropping the Pilot.
