Pyrotechnic Fires

Story

A black mountain shape sits low against the sky while bursts of white, yellow, and blue light flare upward and outward above it, as though fireworks have ignited the darkness. The piece is rendered in pastel on paper, completed in 1919. Joseph Stella (1877–1946) made this work as an Italian-American artist associated with Futurism, a movement concerned with motion, light, and energy.
