Story

A tabletop grouping shows a green pitcher beside potted flowers, a cluster of bananas, and assorted household objects, all painted in shades of green, yellow, and earthy brown. The arrangement sits close together, giving the table a crowded, lived-in feel. This is an oil painting completed in 1912. Its maker, Joseph Stella (1877–1946), an Italian-American painter, worked within Futurism and Precisionism, movements that shaped his approach to everyday subject matter.
