The Water Lily

Story

A single bloom opens at the center of the composition, its pink and white petals tipped with a yellow heart, resting on broad green leaves that spread across a deep blue background. The flower appears flattened and simplified, almost like a decorative emblem rather than a botanical study. Painted in oil on glass in 1924, the piece comes from Joseph Stella, an Italian-American artist associated with Futurism and Precisionism.
