Story
Angular shards of yellow, blue, black, white, and gray interlock to suggest a violin and a glass broken into geometric pieces. The forms overlap and tilt, pulling the instrument and vessel apart into facets that still hint at their original shapes. Juan Gris, a Spanish artist born in 1887 and died in 1927, worked within cubism, the movement that favored this kind of fractured, multi-angled depiction of ordinary objects.
Where it works
Warm-toned artwork suited to living rooms and studies, and to boardrooms, in a vertical format.
