Backgammon

Story

A fractured arrangement of a backgammon board, its scattered pieces, and folds of draped cloth fills the composition, rendered in bands of yellow, blue, green, purple, and red. Angular planes break the objects apart and reassemble them into an interlocking pattern. The piece, titled Backgammon, is by Juan Gris (1887–1927), a Spanish artist associated with cubism, who also created Carafe and Book and Portrait of Pablo Picasso.

Where it works

Cool-toned artwork suited to living rooms and media rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
