Story
A tabletop arrangement dissolves into angular shapes and overlapping planes, with drapery and objects rendered in green, blue, gold, red, and black. The forms interlock so that the table and its contents become hard to separate from the folds of fabric surrounding them. The piece is an oil composition completed in 1916 by Juan Gris, a Spanish artist (1887–1927) associated with cubism, who approached the still life through a fractured, geometric visual language.
