Guitar on a Table

Story

A fragmented blue guitar rests on a wooden table, broken into angular planes alongside a patterned fabric woven in blue, brown, green, and orange tones. Geometric shapes overlap to suggest the instrument and its surroundings from multiple viewpoints at once. The painting was made in oil in 1915 by Juan Gris, a Spanish artist associated with cubism, whose fractured, structured approach to ordinary objects defined this still life composition.
