La Bouteille d'Anis (The Bottle of An’s del Mono)

Story

A bottle labeled Anis del Mono anchors a composition of broken geometric planes in brown, gray, and cream, the shapes overlapping to suggest a tabletop still life rather than describe it plainly. The piece is an oil work completed in 1914 by Juan Gris (1887–1927), a Spanish artist associated with cubism. It is held at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.
