Le Journal

Story

A folded newspaper sits beside a bottle, its shapes broken into fragmented planes of brown, black, white, and gray, flattened into a shallow cubist arrangement. The composition is rendered in oil, titled Le Journal. Its creator, Juan Gris (1887–1927), was a Spanish artist associated with cubism. The painting entered the Norton Museum of Art through the bequest of R. H. Norton.
