Story

A woman dressed in red lifts a mirror, standing amid clusters of yellow blossoms set before a blue sky meeting the sea. The image comes from a color lithograph made in 1892, created for a theatrical poster promoting the Folies-Bergère. The piece belongs to Les Maîtres de l'affiche, Volume 4, and is held at the New York Public Library. Its maker, Jules Chéret (1836–1932), was a French artist associated with Art Nouveau, working as a designer and draftsperson.
