Story

A creek curves gently through a valley, flanked by grassy banks and tall trees, their forms softened by the brown and gold tones of fading evening light. The water reflects the warmth of the sky as the scene settles into quiet stillness. This oil painting was made in 1882 by Julian Ashton, an Australian painter associated with the Heidelberg School, and is held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
