Story

A sandy shoreline opens onto a wide river, with a boat resting on the beach and small figures gathered nearby. Mount Fuji rises quietly in the distance beyond the water. This scene appears in Bushu Tamagawa, a color woodblock print made in 1823. The artist, Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849), worked within the ukiyo-e tradition in Japan, producing imagery tied to the Kasei culture of his time.
