Story

A towering wave curls over the foreground, its crest clawing into the air above small boats, while Mount Fuji rises calmly in the distance. The scene unfolds in dark blue, light blue, and cream tones, giving the water a dramatic sense of motion against the stillness of the mountain. This is a woodblock print by Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849), a Japanese artist associated with ukiyo-e and Kasei culture, whose work later influenced Japonisme.

Where it works

Cool-toned artwork suited to living rooms and dining rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
