Story
A cluster of simplified figures and houses fills a snow-covered village scene, rendered through faceted, geometric shapes in white, blue, orange, and brown. The forms suggest villagers moving between huts after a storm has passed, reduced to rounded cubist volumes rather than detailed likenesses. The composition was painted in 1912 in oil, and it is held at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. The artist, Kazimir Malevich (1879–1935), became associated with Suprematism, a movement he helped define within the broader currents of modern art. One detail worth noticing is how the orange tones of clothing and rooftops stand out sharply against the dominant white and blue of the snow, giving the geometric figures a warm, grounded presence within the cold winter setting.
