Taking in the Rye

Story

Three laborers, reduced to rounded geometric volumes, bend into the task of gathering grain. Behind them rises a backdrop of stacked cylindrical shapes, their surfaces shifting between warm and cool tones, giving the whole scene a solid, mechanical rhythm. The piece is an oil painting completed in 1912. Kazimir Malevich, born in 1879 and died in 1935, worked within the Russian avant-garde and later developed Suprematism.
