Two Figures in a Landscape

Story

Two figures with featureless red oval heads occupy a landscape built from flat geometric fields, their bodies standing among houses and trees rendered in blue, green, yellow, and white. The scene is painted in oil, dated 1931. The artist, Kazimir Malevich (1879–1935), was tied to the Russian avant-garde and to Suprematism, movements that shaped this reduction of figures and setting into simplified, abstracted forms.
