Story

A chameleon stretches across the page, its curled tail and four small feet rendered in a sweep of shifting tones, from sunny yellow into green, then blue, violet, red, and magenta. The creature's surface blends one shade into the next rather than showing a single flat color. The piece, titled A Color of His Own, dates from 1975. Leo Lionni (1910–1999) worked as a children's writer, designer, and graphic artist.
