Tillie and the Wall I

Story

Small painted mice carrying colored flags gather on rolling green hills in front of a tall golden brick wall. The scene suggests a story moment, with the wall rising high above the little figures as they stand together on the grassy slopes. The piece dates to 1989 and comes from Leo Lionni, an artist who worked as a children's writer, designer, and graphic artist across his career in Italy and the United States.

Where it works

A warm-toned figure study suited to kids' rooms and bedrooms, and to restaurants, in a horizontal format.
