Story

A young angel is seen in profile, hair falling in soft curls, draped fabric wrapped around the shoulders. The figure stands against a dark backdrop touched with golden plant-like forms. This oil on panel work was created in 1508 by Leonardo da Vinci, an Italian painter of the High Renaissance, held today at the National Gallery as part of his larger composition of the Virgin of the Rocks.
