Story

A yellow cone sits at the center of the canvas, surrounded by bursts of red and white rings that spread outward against a black ground. Sharp-edged shapes in red, green, and blue cut across the surface, creating a dense, abstract arrangement. Painted in oil on canvas board in 1913 by Marsden Hartley (1877–1943), an American artist connected to Expressionism and Dada, the piece is a promised gift to the Vilcek Foundation.
