Story
A chalice stands among three glasses, a cup, and a loaf of bread, grouped on a shadowed tabletop set against a pale cream backdrop. Red and blue lettering, fragments reading "LUS" and "LOGH," breaks across the composition like scattered signage. Marsden Hartley (1877–1943), an American artist associated with Dada and Expressionism, created this piece, held today at the Brooklyn Museum.
Where it works
A warm-toned still life suited to dining rooms and living rooms, and to restaurants, in a vertical format.
