Story
A mountain rises through bands of color, its slopes rendered in bold horizontal stripes of red, yellow, green, and blue, giving the landscape a vibrating, layered presence. This oil painting, titled Mont Sainte-Victoire, was made in 1927 by Marsden Hartley (1877–1943), an American artist associated with Expressionism and Dada. The piece is a promised gift to the Vilcek Foundation.
