Brazillian Hummingbirds II

Story

A pair of hummingbirds pauses in midair over blossoming plants, set within a hazy tropical scene framed by palm trees and warm earthen tones. The piece was made in 1864 as a chromolithograph with hand-applied oil paint on paper. Martin Johnson Heade (1819–1904), an American painter and traveler associated with the Hudson River school and Luminism, created this work, now held at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Where it works
